Acharya Arun Gossai was born in Georgetown, Guyana and raised in Queens, NY. After graduating with his Bachelor's degree from Stony Brook University, he worked as an accounting manager in New York City for three years. It was in 2011 that he felt a pressing inner call to study Vedanta. Inspired by the philosophical teachings offered by Chinmaya Mission, that same year, he joined the Mission's two-year residential Vedanta Course in India at the Sandeepany Sadhanalaya ashram in Powai, Mumbai. Under the tutelage of Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda, and resident course acharyas, Swami Advayananda and Swami Sharadananda, he studied Vedanta through various scriptures, including the Upanishads, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, Shrimad Bhagavatam, and Ramacharitamanasa. He graduated from the course in 2013 and chose to serve Chinmaya Mission. He was then assigned to be the new Acharya of CM New York, where he looks forward to a continuing and enriching experience of spiritual learning and growth.
